2 days ago more than 240 refugees were picked up by a ship of the Marchand marine in Catania, Sicily. Such massive arrivals are becoming a (sometime weekly) routine in the South of Italy. Arriving from Libia on small makeshift boats without water or food supplies, many of them die during the crossing. This emergency has been going on for years now, and till now the Maltese and Italian authorities were left alone to face the situation.
Officially an accord has been reached for a more European approach. Let see if will result in the creation of humanitarian solutions for people who are by now mere bargaining chip in the hands of criminal organizations -and governements
