Citrons are among the favorites winter fruits in Sicily. You’ll find them also till the south of France (with a hudge price difference). Almost every part is eateable even the white part.
The end of the winter is in Sicily the occasion to taste all kinds of wild vegetables like borage, segale (nothing to do with the cereal) etc. All are delicious in pasta, risotto, omelet’s. Only thing is that there’re so cheap, one can’t decently refuse to take less than 1 kilo, which is … a lot!
Il signore Romano is the only vendor I know who is able to serve 4 or 5 clients at a time, impassive at their protests. The real zen master from Catania! But if one has time and patience the end bill is always more than worth all this waiting!
